A porch and downstairs WC in Whitefield.
This earlier NMB project brought a new porch and ground-floor WC together with drainage changes and structural work to the front entrance.
The brief
The homeowners had drawings for a porch and wanted to incorporate a downstairs WC near the front door. The building work needed to account for drainage, plumbing and the existing supporting brick arch.
The building work
New underground drainage was installed for the WC. During excavation, an existing damaged drain was discovered and replaced. Altering the front brick arch required a steel support for the outer masonry.
Bringing the space together
The recorded scope included foundations, brickwork, blockwork, insulation, roofing, windows and doors, plumbing, a partition and internal finishing. The new entrance and WC were completed as connected parts of the same project.

The original project in detail
This 2012 project combined a new porch with a downstairs WC. New underground drainage connected the WC to the main drain; excavation also exposed a damaged existing drain, which was replaced. Removing the supporting brick arch required a steel support for the outer skin. The work included foundations, brickwork and blockwork, insulation, a timber floor, roofing, fascia, soffits and gutters, a window and composite front door. Plumbing was extended beneath the floorboards to serve the toilet and basin, followed by the internal partition, plastering, joinery and laminate flooring.
